The White Island is not very popular for its wines or wineries, but it is certain that has some finest wines of the region- including award-winning wines – and many beautiful vineyards landscapes to discover. In fact, it is a place of important and ancient wine tradition, due to the influence of Phoenician, Greek and Roman peoples who occupied the territory for many years. Here is one of the most famous wineries in the area.
Can Rich Winery
Can Rich is located in Buscastell, the perfect route for the adventurous wine taster seeking some of the valley’s most distinct wines.The winery belongs to Riera family and is the largest winery of the island, with an annual production of 90,000 liters approximately. They also produce extra virgin olive oil and the famous liquor made of Ibizan herbs.
A peculiarity of this cellar is that its entire production, both the winemaking process and the olive oil, are 100% ecological. The farm has a total of 40 hectares and the cultivated grape varieties are the white Malvasia – called “grec” by Ibiza’s population – and chardonnay; and the inks of monastrell, garnacha, cabernet sauvignon, merlot and syrah.
Deep and balsamic aromas, medium-bodied wines, listed under the heading “Vinos de la Tierra”. Some sparkling wines in its production, are famous for having been awarded as one of the best wines in Spain in the year 2014. The sparkling Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs 2011 was awarded with the prestigious ‘Golden Leaf’ – for excellent quality ecological wines that Ecomundis awards each year.
Can Rich Winery offers guided tours and tastings for those wishing to enjoy a nice day of wine tourism, every day of the year except Sundays. However, it is recommended to book a visit to the vineyards and the cellar. In addition, you can buy and taste in the same Winery.
Can Rich is the largest wine producer on the island. The Company is committed to growing grapes and olive trees without the use of chemicals. Its agricultural processes follow 100% ecological wine-growing methods.
The vineyards, located in Buscastell, cover a total of 20 hectares, 17 of which are dedicated to wine-growing and 3 to olive-growing. Red-grape varieties include monastrell (Graciano), tempranillo, merlot, cabernet sauvignon and syrah. White-grape varieties of malvasia and chardonnay are also grown.
