The Spanish singer of African descent best known as Buika, will be playing at Las Dalias, in Santa Eulària des Riu, for the first time in the island. The concert will take place next Sunday 17th at 9pm. You can buy the tickets in advance for 15 euros, at the hippy market Las Dalias or online at ticketea.com.
Buika has the timber and style of a soul singer and the repertoire of a flamenco singer. She has been compared many times to Nina Simone and Chavela Vargas . The singer was born and raised in the Balearic Islands with her family, who are political exiles from Equatorial Guinea. The Roma community of Palma of Mallorca was for herself an inspirational influence in her music of flamenco style.
The singer has performed with great masters of the Spanish musical theatre scene like the well known pianist Bebo Valdés. One of her most famous records is “el último trago”, a tribute to Chavela Vargas and Bebo Valdés in their 90th birthday, and which was recorded in Cuba. She got her first Grammy to the best album of tropical music thanks to this album.
Two of her most popular songs are – ‘Por el amor de amar’ and ‘Se me hizo fácil’ – which are part of the soundtrack of the Spanish movie titled “The skin I live in” from the film director Pedro Almodóvar. Well, if you love flamenco music, don’t miss this opportunity. Buika will be singing her best themes in Ibiza next weekend.
