Last month the most expected gastronomic festival, Ibiza Sabor 2016, landed on the island. From October 15th to November 30th, the local cuisine and flavors will be present in all the menus of 40 fabulous restaurants which are participating in the Ibiza’s autumn gastronomic days. The Ibiza Tourist Board and PIMEEF are the organisers of these local event.
In Ibiza the fall is like a second part of spring thanks to its mild weather, beautiful beaches, its traditions and excellent food. One of those excellents products typical on the island is the virgin olive oil, which every year begins to produce in the mills in mid-October. Cultivation of the olive grove and olive oil production have always been very deeply rooted in the culture of the Mediterranean peoples. The use of oil olive expanded greatly during the Roman Empires until nowadays.
The gastronomic proposals of these 40 restaurants include a wide range of flavored olive oils of the island. In addition to this, they also include other top quality products such as sobrasada, honey, lamb or the traditional “flaó” (a typical cheesecake). These delicious menus offer a price of 20€, excluding drinks. Tapas are also available for 5€ including beer or a glass of wine.
The main objectives are to promote the interaction between customers through social networks and to get know Ibizan Gastronomy with Ibiza Sabor. With this purpose there are different contests between users. Those interested in participating, can send images and comments about the menus they have tasted using the hashtag #IbizaSabor16 or #EivissaSabor16. They can win a ticket to go to Madrid Fusión 2017, a dinner for two in one of the establishments that participate in the gastronomic festival, or even a basket of products from Ibiza.
During the gastronomic days of Ibiza Sabor have celebrated other events as the first edition of the Olive Oil Festival of Ibiza and a workshop of “flaó” for children by the chef of the restaurant Hotel Pachá, Íñigo Rodríguez. The flaó is a popular dessert on the island, which is very similar to American cheesecake, but it has mint leaves.
There is still a week left to savor the exquisite menus, to discover new restaurants and taste local Ibizan products. So, take advantage to enjoy the typical and traditional Ibiza!
